Who is Trail Blazers for?
Trail Blazers is open to 3rd–5th grade students who are ready for fun, adventure, and learning on and off the bike. No racing, no pressure—just riding, playing, and growing together.

How many kids can participate?
Trail Blazers is limited to 20 participants per location to ensure a safe, high-quality experience. After you register, you’ll receive a confirmation email to let you know your spot is secured, or if you’ve been added to the waitlist.
What kind of bike skills are expected?
Kids are expected to know how to ride a bike – we’ll teach them the rest!
What kind of bike does my child need?
A mountain bike with a wheel size between 20 and 27.5 inches, front and rear hand brakes, and off-road tires (minimum 1.75” wide). Balance bikes, e-bikes, and drop-bar bikes are not allowed. We recommend getting a tune-up at a local bike shop before the program begins.
Does my child need a helmet?
Yes. Helmets must be certified for mountain biking, fit snugly and comfortably, and be free of cracks or damage.
What should my child wear?
Closed-toe athletic shoes and comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing. Avoid loose or baggy items that can get caught in the bike. We ride in most weather—layers are helpful!
What should my child bring?
Please pack a full water bottle and a small, easy-to-carry snack each week. We’ll take short breaks to refuel and hydrate. We also recommend a small backpack to carry their snack and clothing layers if needed.
Do parents stay during the sessions?
Nope! Trail Blazers is a drop-off program. While we love parent enthusiasm, we’ve found that kids build confidence best when they’re with their peers and mentors. Parents should return promptly at 7 PM for pickup.
Who leads the program?
Trail Blazers is run by AMBC staff and trained volunteers from AMBC with experience in youth engagement and bike safety. All guides complete program training and background checks before the season begins.
Can I volunteer to help?
Absolutely! We’re always looking for volunteer guides. No coaching experience needed—just a love for trails, bikes, and working with kids. Volunteers must commit to most sessions and attend training beforehand, and pass a background check.
What if it rains?
Trail Blazers runs in most weather conditions unless it’s unsafe (e.g., thunderstorms). We’ll notify families via email or text if a session is canceled or modified.
