Mountain Bike
Riders must use a geared mountain bike with a wheel size between 20 and 27.5 inches, equipped with front and rear hand brakes and off-road tires at least 1.75” wide. Bikes should be in solid working condition—no loose parts, worn brakes, or flat tires. Balance bikes, e-bikes, and bikes with drop handlebars are not permitted.
We strongly recommend taking your bike to a local shop for a tune-up before the program begins to ensure it’s safe and trail-ready.
Helmet
Participants must wear a properly fitting helmet with a certified safety rating for mountain biking. Helmets should sit snugly—secure but comfortable—and must be free of cracks, dents, or other damage. For optimal protection, we recommend replacing helmets every two years.
Required Shoes and Clothing
Riders must wear closed-toe athletic shoes—no sandals, crocs, or slip-ons. Shoes should have good tread and fit securely for safe riding and off-bike activities.
Comfortable, weather-appropriate athletic clothing is required. Avoid overly loose or baggy items that could get caught in the bike. Dress in layers when needed, and be prepared for light rain or mud—we ride in most conditions!
Snacks and Water
Biking builds big appetites! Please send your rider with a full water bottle and a small, easy-to-eat snack each week (think granola bar, fruit, or trail mix). We’ll take short breaks to refuel and hydrate—because happy riders are well-fed riders! Make sure snacks are packed in a way they can carry in a backpack or hip pack on the trail.
